Hello all,
after a long time, I couldn't show you anything from my table, I have finished this Rackham mini today morining. I really love the miniatures from this company. I have bought ca. 100 blisters and 10 boxes from them when I heard that they don't produce any new miniatures for painting. But for cheaper prices (most blisters for 2 euro :D) Okey, seems like I am a bit crazy.
Okey, let's come to the painting... I tried to give him a mystic and brave looking. With dark and naturally colours and with the pruple and turqouis. The swords should look like twin swords, or I don't know.. how they could be called. But everybody should see that they belong together like ying and yang :D
I tried some new things with pigments, to let the skulls look very old and dirty..
Maybe you can see, some of my crazy monkey ideas in the picutres :D
Thanks for answers and critics. I keep him on the cork, until I have finished his base.
Best regards
Oli

EDIT:
Tried to make the tips from Raffa in my miniature. I added some white and red + little bit violet in the face.

I really like him, but I personally think you should have added a third dominating colour apart from the brownish skin and the turqouis to keep things more interesting, because this way for example the brown beard seems to 'melt' into the rest of the face (at least in my opinion, doesn't have to mean something ;))
Apart from that I just love the NMM, keep up the good work.
Very very nice, i really like him.
I would make the face a bit brighter to set more focus into that certain area.
Maybe more colors in the face like red & violet....
I'm very curious how the base is going to look like!
Cheers,
Raffa
Nice painting Oli , I like it :)
Yeah, well done, Oli! I like it, too.
Agree to Raffa, the face could have been a little brighter. Would have underlined the wonderful light you've set at the rest of the skin.
Only thing I don't like at all are those skulls. You used the pigments a little to wild. Don't know if it works at all at such a small size. Maybe you can remove a little of it.
Looking forward what will come next!!
Hey Oli, that guy is fantastic, love your intense work with light overall especially on the muscles... the detail is impressive, the knees simply stunning, the blades also and i like the colour choice of yours a lot... BUT... somehow even with the chances i lost the face in all that glory sorrounding it. I guess it is the beard's colour that won't bring it out like it could. your contrast in the face is very strong so you could go with a really kinda pure of white hair or even a really dark hair to set a frame around his face to set it into focus...
Just my thoughts, not sure if i am right with these but if you want you could give it a try...
Keep on happy painting!
Regards
Roman
Very beautiful mini. The twirling ribbons on the blades are perfectly painted, and they have a great shimmering quality. The beard could use some lighter colours i suppose, but really it all looks amazing! :D
I am also very curious as to where you bought all these minis for 2 euro a piece!? a mini that is sculpted that well for only 2 euro is a great deal i dont want to miss :P
I like him a lot but I have to agree concerning the colour of the beard and the hair. Black hair would have been the better choice or red hair for example. Another point are the highlights on the blades, because I think they are much to dark. Look the highlights at his skin are already brighter than the reflections on the metal (which should have to most depth). But apart from that minor points he turned out really great, good job :-)
Thanks for all your answers, sorry that I needed so long for answer.
You are right with all you said, I think. Some more highlights on the face, the lights on the swords, other hair colour and red/violet lights in the face... and the pigments.. :D
Some of this problems I could solve I think. I hope you can see it on the last picture.
Overall thanks for the tips, your opinion helps to see things/mistakes, which I don't see at first, when I was looking on the mini, during the painting process :)
Best regards, Oli
The change in the hair is now what it makes it brilliant all in all... good job monkey brother! Really looking forward to your base ...
Well done. I am looking to get this mini, how tall is he and does he come with a 20mm base?
I am not sure if this Rackham Miniature is still available as Rackham is no more, maybe you might have a chance at ebay or as final stock in some online store... The base is 20x20 as far as i know but you could stand him on a base that you like anytime!
