Right, a Space Marine on a motorbike :D
Really enjoyed doing this one out of the "Storm of Vengeance" box and got to say they are really cool. Cool pose, cool dynamic move and best of it all, it is a Space Marine on a bike. I always am and will be a fan of the order of the Dark Angels as I once had a little army of them.
A true joy to paint, even it was done rather quick again for testing some techniques I am new to at the moment. The biker will also be used in an upcoming article about "thoughts on painting black", which will be released in the future.
Nice weekend to everybody - we are on the road to a painting class!

That looks great. I like the limited palette approach.
The freehand on the right shoulder is also really sweet.
I've always had issues with the white wings on the standard Ravenwing bikes. I know Space marines don't go in for camouflage but the Ravenwing does 'come from the shadows' a bit and whit just doesn't make sense. Anyway with the white they're more like the Magpiewing. What you've done is really cool, how did you get all the different tones on the wings? I'm about to start some of mine so this is great inspiration.
Oh wow yours is sooo much darker and grittier then mine! Oh well i guess thats why your the pro painter ;)

A Black tutorial might come handy for me, I always have difficult not to end with a grey in grey end-colour sheme

Yeah I think the same about the pure white wings. I used some glazes of different greys on a white base colour to achieve this effect. For example a grey green, a grey blue, a grey orange ... means grey plus the colour you like ... than glaze it on top as often as you prefer. If you are unfamiliar with glazing technique check Massive Voodoo's article section for a tutorial on that!

I do like yours thought. The biggest difference I see is that your bikes are just black. Mine works with differents shades of black to make a light situation on it.

It will still take me a little while as this article is pretty big when it is done, but after the article I am sure you understand how to work with black. You will not just get a colour recipe, more a guide to handle every situation :)

Dark Angels were my first Space Marine army back when I was a kid. This model captures everything my imagination conjured up about them. Dark, gritty, sinister.
I wish I could paint black to even half as good a standard, the subtle colours used throughout this figure really give it life.

Yeah i tried to use different shades of black or dark grey but it looked more like uneven painting or airbrush accidents then shading/highlighting...
