Goblin Aid - Help Kev Adams

posted by roman, jarhead, kong

Aloa brushfriends,

I recieved an email I really want to put on the blog.
I know I am late for it, but the last weeks have been quite busy.
While reading the following lines I really felt very sorry for what happened to Kev Adams.
Somehow I am quite stunned and don't find much words, so here you go with a quote of the mail I recieved:

"Hello Roman,

You don't know me, I am a humble painter and hobbyist based in the UK, a big fan of your blog!

I wish I was writing to you about something else, but I wanted to draw your attention to a sad incident - Kev Adams, goblin sculptor of renown, has been assaulted in is own home by burglars. A group of hobbyists are getting together in the UK to help him out by raising cash through ebay auctions. Please take a look at my blog for more details. Then I would very much appreciate it if you could help by putting a post on your own blog, you have a massive world following and I am hoping that some of your readers would like to help. With your help the news will travel faster.

Thanks for reading,

Paul"

I would recommand checking the Goblinaid facebook page to see how this is growing!

Kong's WIP thoughts - March #03

Hi!

It is about time again.
Some thoughts about my work on the table.
Enjoy, comment and share your thoughts if you like.

During the two painting classes close to the studio I really missed the studio itself. While I was teaching the classes, Raffa and sometimes even more friends were at the studio to paint. I somehow missed that. Knowing that your friends are having a good time while you got to work in the next room was kind of anoying, even I had a lot of fun with my students and we had a joyful time during the classes. I missed my table ...

On the photo above you still can see the BANANALICIOUS parcels I am going to sent out soon. Really looking forward to do so as this will clean out my mind and I can focus again. After the classes I took my time to clean and set up my workbench pretty well. It was definatly rewarding - ready, set, go!!

For a long time I did not paint a demonette during my own class. I was used to start bigger projects and most of them ended up unfinished in the last year. This made me kind of sad, so I decided to do a demonette too on the upcoming classes to avoid sadness. So I did two demon ladies during the last classes, but unfortanetly they were not planned for the workshop base. Both will be part of a bigger Slaanesh diorama with the big Forgeworld Slaanesh demon. Due this reason I was kind of stuck to the colour scheme for both of them. As you can see on the photo, the one on the left recieved some more work on the final lights compared to the one on the right. Both have been painted at the classes for explanation and demonstration ... both are not finished yet.

I found some time to work on the comissioned Space Marine. I will finish him during the next couple of sessions in the studio as I plan to enter him in another online competition. I really enjoy how he comes along, but I know there is still much to do.

In the back of the photo above you may find a base I did during the first painting class. I was searching for a figure I could put upon as a quick project, first planned the chaos cultist but thought he might look better on a normal gaming base. I did find a High Elf for the other base in the end.

Following you can see the second base I built up during the second class. Still not finished yet and also missing a fun figure on top:

During all this basing and figure search I took a moment to change figures on my bases. Somehow this explains to me that a base is not always perfect for a figure - you have to find the right base for the right figure. Check out these "tests" :D

Lately I have learned that most of the foreign english speakers don't use the describtion "common earth" for dirt they put on a base. It is easier to say "soil" and I am happy to finally know that. It feels I said the wrong describtion for ages now :D - here you go with a bonsai Raffa thought dead. So he brought it to the studio and during the painting classes we picked out our soil from it. Yesterday while taking out soil I realized that he is coming back to life again ... amazing!

So far so good ... my table will be worked more in the upcoming days. Really looking forward to that.
I hope you enjoyed this little travel around my WIPs ...

I wish some happy painting to you all out there!

40k Nurgle Herald

by Roman aka jar

posted by roman, jarhead, kong

Greetings!

For relaxation I did choose to make a little mad conversion of Nurgle again - a herald of Nurgle for Warhammer 40.000.

Concept was directly for the gaming table, that means I decided to invest not the biggest amount of time to the conversion, the base and the painting. All in all this figure took me about 6 hours of work for everything. I used a lot of parts and honestly I can't remember them :D

A true herald of god nurgle.
A warrior of decay.
A champion of odor.

+Herald of Nurgle+
Games Workshop, 28mm
(heavily converted)

A lot of fun to do - I really enjoyed to do this one for the goal of being a nice gaming hero. Nothing more, nothing fency. And I think 6 hours of work are quite fine for the result. Sometimes it is really hard to stop painting when you see so many things you can do better and better, but I got to save those energies for some of my bigger projects.

If you are in need of a cool Nurgle Chaos Lord for your 40K armies, check out my ebay soon!
If you are interested in buying this one without ebay, please feel invited to write an email to me in the next couple of days to jarhead---at---massivevoodoo---dot---com

Keep on happy painting!
Best Wishes

Aloa boombaye!

Some mad and great days are lying in the past.
Two Painting Classes in my hometown, really nice weekends with kind participants and a great athmosphere have passed. The last one made me sleeping deep in the jungle until today. I was truly off yesterday. Today there was a relaxing day in the studio with Raffa and for me it was final clean up work from the class to be done.I even managed to have some painting moments. Now when I look forward, there is a lot of work to be done:

- final Update on the BANANALICIOUS Special Prize Winners
- shipping all that stuff of the contest out to everybody
- writing the review of the second class
- do some blogging of articles and stuff that was made ready during the last weeks

This will be what I'll do the next days: Getting back to work in the "office" again to get my mind free from the emails I have to write, make some long missed socialising with friends again, search some easter eggs, eat them, rest, spent some time with my lady and my cats and have my sister visiting us during the next days. Some pretty relaxed days ahead. The next big event for me is my trip to the Crystal Brush in the middle of April. So I can take the next few weeks to spent some more time in the studio, until ... we are expecting the delivery of two tons of books soon :)

Today I found whilst painting I found a solution for something that really stressed me out during painting: the new GW colour pots that won't stay open - my solution:

Really they make me mad as I am a painter that loves to get some colour from his pots during the progress. Now I am fine with that idea. Cool use of my wet palette too :D

Cleaning up the workbench after the class madness was pretty important today and rewarding:

Now I am off and what shall be done, shall be done ... soon, maybe!
Keep on happy painting!

Music for tired ears!

Best Wishes
Roman

Hey guys,

Duke of Bavaria 2013 is coming fast and I have started my personal "bootcamp". There are three different projects I want to finish for the contest and so it´s my intention to paint as much as possible.

I think I will make it by time as the projects are all in an advanced state of wip. So there are 6 week remaining to do the job.

Here´s  a quick shot of today´s level:

We´ll see if I can make it ;)

Regards,
Peter
