Hello Jungle Painters,

today I finished watching a documentary about Donald McCullin.
The documentary is called "McCullin". It took me three days to watch it til the end.
During watching it and in the end I was really touched.


Don McCullin

Born on October 9 1935, McCullin grew up in Finsbury Park, north London. After a period of national service in the Royal Air Force, where he was a photography assistant, he spent his life savings on a camera. His first published photograph was of his local gang, the Guvnors, printed in the Observer in 1959. He subsequently covered the famine in Biafra, the Vietnam War, the Troubles in Northern Ireland, as well as conflicts in Uganda, Lebanon and El Salvador. In 1977 McCullin was made a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society; in 1993 he became the first photojournalist to be awarded a CBE. McCullin lives in Somerset with his wife and youngest son.
 
Don McCullin worked as a war photographer for the Sunday Times and what he saw through his camera was just totally shocking, but he took his photos with so much humanity and often dignity of man. His expression of his experiences can just make you cry. I am still really touched and really out of words. It is hard to say at this point that Mr. McCullin made great other photos too, not only war photos, all with impact and genius skills.

Allright. The Tooth Fairy.
Honestly I never had much contact with this monster, ehm 'Fairy' in my childhood. Lucky me. The imagination of people's toothfairy fantasies are really scaring me. Teeth are always a strange thing and we all know the horror of going to the dentist. Teeth are strange. Now imagine not a dentist but a monster ripping out your tooth. Imagine you are six years old. Well, no that is an ugly imagination, pure horror and so is Broken Toad's Toothfairy. Ugly.

But wait, the monster arrives in a really cool wooden box. Everybody is still safe. Cool Concept Drawing on the box. It tells scary and ugly inside.



Opening up you have tons of things in there. 8 parts to build up the model and a plinth. All Resin.



On the smaller parts you find some "resin skin" that you can easily remove with looking straight at it. Mould lines are not bad at the model, in fact there are not many.

A fairy needs wings, a sexy fairy the ones of butterflies and a toothfairy the ugly ones.

These hands are made for demanding and ripping out teeth ... har har!


The main body is most amazing. Real cool and ugly concept. Painted in the right "mood" and athmosphere this beast can scare the $hit out of some I am sure. As you can see on the main body you have holes to fit in the smaller arms.

Inspiration is just so important.
Not only to sit down and create something. It is important to feel good. Maybe after months. When you get inspired by something your soul will link up to it without you might ever recognize. Sometimes such links come up just some minutes after the initial inspiration, some months later or even years after. Not all will do. Some will just dissapear. Everybody knows how it's running.

Today's life as a miniature painter
is completle madness if you inform yourself on a daily basis what is going on my painter friends workbenches, search for new ideas in the real world or in the internet and then there are blogs you want to read, galleries you want to check and there is that toilet flush called facebook. Toilet flush? Well, no offence to anyone. Facebook is just too fast and a lot of things that could/would/should inspire me are just rushing by in that toilet flush, because it is just too much. Too fast. I am growing old or wise, who knows. Just my thoughts.

Hey Jungle Painters,

recently I painted on canvas again and it felt ... beautiful.
I decided to do so again, not aiming for any kind of perfection, just fun with colors and watching some paintwork to grow over days.

Here is the first one I talked about, in case you did miss it.

Still, I am very inspired by the movie "Mad Max - Fury Road" and that is why my second canvas is also themed in this direction. Well, on my first step this is not recognizable I guess:

Step 1: Colors.

Step 2: Mixed together. Painted my shoe.

Step 3: Motive sketch with more colors.

Step 4: Painting on. Canvas work to the right is by my friend Susanne Ziegler aka Sanne.
Well I was happy enough to be allowed to work on her workspace. 

Done! 
The painting process took me about 3 weeks as I was painting a mix from Acrylic and Oil colours and sometimes had to wait until the oil colours were dry again. It was fun and I enjoyed myself painting once more, even the final result is not perfect in detail. I never aimed for that. Still I think it reflects my inspiration and it feels good to explore my brush strokes once in a while.
