Review: Private Coaching with Sascha

by Roman aka jar

Hi Jungle!
Time for another private coaching review.
I am really happy to be able to teach again, even in those days of COVID restrictions I have to limit this all to private one on one lessons. I missed it.

This time Sascha visited me very spontanously to improve his skills under my guidance.

Sascha and me

The last two days I had the pleasure to sit together with Sascha aka @lord.shader to teach him hands on in a two day private coaching. Sascha aapproached me and wanted to improve his blending quality, learn more about painting skintones and to improve his non metallic metal techniques.

Well, quite the many topics. I suggested to teach him something he will find all the answers to his questions with, framed by my lesson of 'atmosphere' painting. And Sascha did such a great job in putting this knowledge to a model. Thank you very much for two cool nice days and for being such a super student.

This was his result after the two days of coaching. It is a model he 3dprinted himself. The lizard was already painted on when he arrived and we just included him in the atmosphere of the rider.

"I am quite new to Painting but I made the decision to dive deeper into the world of miniature Painting.

So i started developing my skills and as most of the people today i did this with researching Online and watching youtube tutorials but i was never quite satisfied with them.
I hooked up with some Discord groups , where I asked around for good painters (yes iam very new so i dont know most of them), then suddenly a guy from Brazil dropped the "lappat bomb" after a quick research I found Him and realized he's not that far away from my Town where I live.

So the Mission was Clear! I would take a class with Roman - since those COVID-19 effidence "private coaching" was the only option.
And it was an absolute blast!

I asked Roman if he could help me to get better contrast on my Miniatures, and so he showed me his secret little tricks to enhance this and this changed my whole way of Painting from now on!
Every Step and explanation was on Point clear to understand even as a beginner. My Result after those 2 days was fantastic! Overall he's a very nice and chill guy. He is explaining you everything (again and again and again if needed ;-))

If you guys out there have the Opportunity to take a class with him don't hesitate just do it!
It was an experience which brought me to the next level!

(btw. this a real and honest review!!)

THANKS Roman ♥"

First Sascha was really shy in using this big palette and
then he just painted away... beautiful!

Atmosphere training unit!

Two tired painters ...

Thank you again, Sascha!
It has been my pleasure helping you to improve.
Again, after our lesson I am convinced of the big learning curve a hands on one and one training has.
It made me proud as a teacher to see you grow so much during these two days! And a special thanks goes to you for the understanding of life!

Keep on happy painting!

MV Killteams #02 - Josua, Johannes and Roman

by Roman aka jar

 Hey Jungle,

inspired by the call of Volomir to raise a #Killteam2020 with 100 points some MV Team Members are following it. Josua, Johannes and Roman are fully into that Warhammer 40k vibe and do start their Kill Teams with 100 Points or more to create a playable force. Gaming boards are in the making. Here are their WIP logbooks, this is #01 ...

A really helpful and inspiring article to plan and execut a themend army is also the one of Johannes:

Craftworlds - Asuryani Force

After the Howling Banshee Exarch I wanted to steer my attention towards the biggest part of my kill team, the Guardians. I wanted to be able to choose between 2 Gunners with fusion gun and 2 Gunners with flamer. So I've built 2 versions with each weapon. As I don't have any special weapons kits, I went with my own interpretation of each weapon.

Gunner with flamer

Gunner with fusion gun

Gunner with fusion gun
Gunner with fusion gun

In addition to 2 Gunners with fusion gun and one with flamer (the second Gunner with flamer will be finished in a future part), I finished my leader, who is also a Guardian, as I mainly want to use his passive Bonus and want to keep him out of danger as much as possible.

Space Wolves Tactical Strike Force

After the last update some major changes happened to my scout character. I decoded that the first version was to bulky and to close to the other Spacemarines.

The main body is based on an enforcer from necromunda which gives the scout a more sneaky and less bulky siluet.

To change the look to s more wild feel I swaped the arms of the envorcer to bare muscular arms.

On the painting side of the whole crew did not happen much. I still managed to start the pretty unuasal ghili suit of my sniper once again realizing it is not easy at all to coapy real nature color schemes.

I am plannimg to finish the build of the scout next week and continuing on the sniper stay tuned!

Dark Angel Tactical Strike Force
"Wing of Vengeance"

After painting the sergeant of my squad I decided to paint the next three marines in a row in a little simpler fashion than their leader. To save time and get the squad pushed forward ...

My comm specialist ...

My demolition specialist ...

And a regular Primaris on the left here ...

It is really interesting to paint a unit/team again. It is interesting how my motivational curve behaves ... during painting them it felt like a pain in the crack, but when finished I was proud ...

What really helped me is my project ping-pong ... So I decided to kitbash something else on the go and went for a cool looking model of an Inquisitor ...

Hope you like them so far!
Keep on happy painting!

Review: Private Coaching with Ruggero

by Roman aka jar

Good morning jungle people,

time for another review on a two day private coaching.
This time Ruggero visited me to learn from me in his chosen topic/subject ...

It really feels good being able to teach again, even though I miss the large group weekend seminars.
I hope I can start this very soon without any strange vibes COVID-19 leaves for the organisational parts ... News about coachings and workshops are available here.

Ruggero & me (Covid-19 memories)

You can follow Ruggero's painters journey on Instagram:
https://www.instagram.com/minirug/

My student Ruggero approached me with a list of many things he wanted to learn: learn to paint OSL, skintone, lessons about volumes and textures. I decided to offer him two different paths to choose from:

  • Doing all the single lessons in depth and he would know about and understand each point on his list...

  • Learning to plan, construct and paint atmopshere, so he can include everything, like Skintone, leather, metallics, fabrics, chocolate, underwear, space marine armour in different color, toilet paper, flowers and more into the frame of an atmospheric vision and learns to paint it all. So we did that thing and added extras like OSL lessons, texture lessons, skintone, color theory, technical approach planning a project and execution into this frame.

It has been intense and since Ruggero only started painting last November to bring color to his boardgame miniatures this was truely machine gun fire of new learning content for him. And he stood his ground, capable to understand it all and push himself as far as he could. Doing a big leap on his personal painter journey.

I am such a proud teacher and want to thank Ruggero for travelling from Berlin to Augsburg and the good times spent.

This is what Ruggero said about his coaching experience:

"I booked an individual coaching with Roman because I admire many of his works and wanted to learn how he approaches painting a miniature. Which point of view he has when it comes to color choice, texture, OSL and atmosphere.

He challenged me a lot during these two days. Theory units, practical exercises and first application of what I learned on the model. He followed a concept that gradually revealed itself to me. He is didactically excellent and picked me up where I stood with my skills. And that is where I am no longer standing, but where I am further than before. It's a big step. Every project starts with color, and if you think you already know a lot about color and light, you should first book a course with Roman and see if your assessment was correct.

Apart from all the knowledge he imparts, Roman is a perfect host. He is attentive, caring and helpful, even when it is not about painting. He is a walking encyclopedia of art. But what impressed me most is that he also reveals his secret tricks. Tricks that you won’t find on YouTube, because Roman keeps them for his students. Go there. He has a studio full of small worlds, and it’s worth diving into each of them."

- Ruggero

Ruggero's result of the two day coaching ...

I want to thank you again, Ruggero for your will to learn from me and your support in my art, passion and teachings.

Keep on happy painting!
Yours,
Roman

Review: Private Coaching with Christian

by Roman aka jar

Hey Jungle,

another review on a private coaching that recently took place.
If you are interested in a private coaching session or the actual news on workshops, please read:
http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2020/08/news-workshop-news-private-coachings.html

Christian & me

See Christian's work on Instagram here!

Christian approached me some weeks ago and
told me about his 'situation':

He defenetaly knows how to paint, how to blend, how to work on details and how to use interesting color schemes. He has been to different workshops, enjoys youtube and patreon knowledge, but somehow he feels stuck in his way of painting, planning and executing his ideas into the real world. Well, for me it was very clear what I wanted to teach him, one on one: My seminar about 'atmospheric painting' and 'how to develop a healthy workflow that suits his personality' to help him bringing his own visions into reality without copying my style in the way of monkey-sees, monkey-does-teaching. Well, this is what we did together for two days, with the frame of 'learning to plan, execute and paint atmospheric projects', main focus on 'understanding skintones. His result speaks louder than words...

Christian arrived with plenty of models to choose from and
showed a great selection of his works too ...

Christian's result after two days ...

This is what Christian said about the coaching:

"Thank you Roman for the superb one-on-one experience. It was helpful beyond belief.
Your hospitality is simply amazing, the studio is like a leisure center and a place of pure emotion and creativity. It’s opened my eyes to new ways of painting and constructing and thinking as an artist. What a great experience! You are such a warm and friendly person, teacher, friend and you conveyed your vision in a way that I could understand it and even better, use it.
The fact that you could simply tailor the coaching to fit my skill level and my needs on the spot was magical and most of the time it just felt like we were two buddies painting on a Sunday night.

You pushed me in a way I didn’t even realize and I went home with two new major insights: understanding my surroundings and a new way of seeing things.

I came to you open minded and ready to learn, not knowing what to expect. After this amazing learning journey, I was wandering around the studio during my final minutes there and I saw all the miniatures in a different way... much different than two days beforehand. Everything I saw was extremely harmonic and I finally understood the reason, thanks to your coaching.

Again, thank you Roman for opening my eyes during these wonderful two days.

Coaching for what matters"

Thank you, Christian for two beautiful days!
It is always a pleasure to hear the click moments of my students and I am happy that we heard many in your coaching. A lot of knowledge was put in place and makes sense from now on I hope! Continue with joy and keep on happy painting!

Yours,
Roman
