Sanne painted Frank's figures

by Unknown

Huhu!

Sanne here and I hope you remember me?

A few months ago a friend of mine (Frank) visited me in the studio once, saw the zombie and the green gorilla bust that I had painted so far, and then asked if I want to paint some gaming figures for him. So I came to my first job in miniature figure painting.

He brought six figures and told me, which colors they should become and then I started. All aiming for gaming quality.

I had most of the fun with the nightmare monster! It has many small areas, so there was not so much space for large gradients and this was easier to paint for me. And I also found it cool sculpted.

Generally, bases are always fun for me.
Here, in difference it was nice to just put some earth on it. For the nightmare monster Raffa has carved out some small extra-magic stones from plastic, which I put around the monster and also painted them blue. Thus, the blue color also appears in the base again, what offers a better overall impression.

I have always fun by "getting to know" the characters. At the beginning - in front of a white metal figure I've always detect problems.  After the application of the primer you still can discover a lot, but only atduring the painting you can see all the little details. For example, I found the armor and weaponry of one of the knights very amusing: Holding a swing with smoke and a little angel with a bell on top. That would definitely exactly be the weapons that I would choose for a fight! :)

I disliked the blonde knight. I didn't like him from the beginning. His head is just too big and he was so stuck together that it seemed almost impossible for me to somehow be able to paint his face. So I decided to make him fit in golden armor and with blond hair, because I kind of dislike this uncool look too.

During painting these figures, I started to notice a little progress in my work. I was definitely becoming faster. I started with the flesh golem which took a long time compared to the other figures. First I applied the fundamentals, then a wash. After the washing I didn't like him anymore. I thought I did something wrong. So I tried to fix that until I eventually got tired and gave up. But now he seems not so bad
painted to me anymore.

The way of working after the flesh golem was quick and easy – for my standards.
Base colors, lights and shadows. Done.
My general problem is the gradient to larger areas (by example legs). These get usually blotchy and unclean. But I'm just learning how to handle with acrylic paints on miniature. It just depends on the right amount of water and color pigments on the brush tip, what is still difficult to deal for me.
To learn this procedure is a question of patience. I'm lucky to have also patient teachers who show me again and again and this is also getting better, slowly but steady.

To paint the six figures was fun, but I'm looking forward to have more time to work on other single projects again and learn something new.

Kong's WIP-thoughs - June #03

by Roman aka jar

Olá Jungle Painters,

time for another one of my personal WIP-thoughts during beautiful June.
The last one can be found behind this link.

Well, what is happening at my table?

I am still working on the Toad King by Aradia Miniatures. It really became a bigger project than expected in the beginning but also a true joy to see it grow. I am closing in to finish it this week or the next one, not sure how it turns out.

The everyday studio with lamps burning bright ...

Did work on more greens for the base ...
 and more plants ...

and more greens on painting the frog... a WIP-photo:

Meanwhile the frog is painted to 98% finish and is already glued to the base. Now it is time to bring in some of his frog friends, the army of "quakidiquak!" and then put these to the base. When this is done the whole piece gets detail final work, but first it is time to go mad with these little animals from Busch, some from Mantis Miniatures and one bigger frog sculpted by Raffa.

Well, beside this green madness I ran into a topic while reading a lot of the history of Africa and I am working on a yet unrealesed sculpt by Forged Monkey, called Jamal. I make a conversion of him which is truely fun, changing his whole appearance to the character I want to speak of -WIP - hair/beard conversion done with BeesPutty:

Like I told you - to both projects you will see massive articles dropping into your jungle in the future. So please don't worry if not all information is shared at the moment. Now to something else on the table. Last weekend a good friend of mine had birthday and I know he likes to drink Whisky, so my girlfriend and I went to buy him some. I found this great bottle and well, it even tastes ... mjam, mjam.

Thanks to Jens, the Leonidas from Switzerland who sent us a very cool postcard from his trip to the H.R. Giger museum. Thanks for the kind words, Jens and yes, RIP Giger.

So far so good, my WIP-thoughts out.
Keep on happy painting and always rememberr what the buffalos used to say!
Best Wishes
Roman

Fire Elemental by Drakerys the Game

by Raffa

Hey everyone!

Yesterday I finished a rather quick, just for fun, paintjob of a Fire Elemental by Drakerys.

At the beginning I was really clueless what base I could use for this figure.
I wanted to do something that looked like scorched earth or something burning.

When I got the idea how to pull it off, somehow I got a bit crazy with the technique, you will for sure get a small tutorial about it very soon :)

I really aimed for a paintjob that lives more from the strong effect than from clean paintstyle, but I really like the result.

Thanks again to our friends at Don't Panic Games for the figure, it was a real joy to paint!

I wish you best luck with your ongoing Kickstarter 'Drakerys, the miniature game', it will be a really great game, I'm sure!

Best wishes,
Raffa

by Massive Voodoo

Hello Jungle Painters,

the first of MV's Jar's Basing Class in August is already full with all seats gone.
As mentioned before in the announcement there is now a second date in late September available.

The main topic of the weekend class is base composition and a guide on how you can build up your own harmonic future bases.

Please remember that this particular class will only be held maximum twice a year, always in Augsburg, Germany. Next year the basing class will also be held, but with another theme of the base. This year's theme is "post-apocalyptic, nature conquers back". The following example explains where the class aims for:

If you are interested in taking part in the class we recommend to read this short FAQ in english and check with the announcement post. Again, the class is now announced, but the registration starts in one week, Friday 27th of June 2014 at 08:00 p.m. (CEST).

See you there for the best basing experience you ever will make!
