New photo equipment and some new miniatures

by Oli aka HonourGuard

posted by Oli, HonourGuard, silver leaf

After weeks I didn't write anything here, some painting events and the funny MV jungle camp, I wanted to show you my latest stuff.
I have bought a light tent, some lights for it and a friend said me much about all the options I can chose on my camera.. :D

At the moment, I paint some miniatures for companies and in the free time I try to learn how to paint with oils.. damn.. it`s not easy.. :D

Okey.. here are my miniatures:

Duel in the mountains:

Squik hopper, I wanted to make a unit of these for the GD.. but lets see what the time brings.. :)

Ar-Finiel: I have built this base, 2 days before the duke of bavaria was, thanks Raffa, for your help :)

Better photos of my Age or Robots:

Bilbo Beggins:

In the near future I will sell some of my miniatures for a good reason. But more about this soon..
Feel free to comment :)

Best regards Oli

WiP: Gladiator Bust

by Peter aka Baphomet

posted by Peter, Baphomet

Hey guys,

just wanted to show you my current project I´m working at. It´s the second head of the Gladiator Bust from Young Miniatures. The other head was already painted (together with the body part) by Roman and he gave it to me as a gift :) Thank you for this, my friend!

Since I started painting this (mini-)bust I was thinking about if I should use the visor of the helmet or not. On the one side the face is beautiful shaped and it´s pure fun to paint it. On the other side I wanted to use the visor, because in my opinion it belongs to a gladiator helmet, but if I would do this, I would lose the face.... so I was thinking about a solution for this problem.

Some days ago I remembered that I had used magnets (Neodym) for a Carnifex-model (GW) some years ago when I was still playing tabletop to have all weapon options available. After brooding about this idea for a time, I decided to try to apply the same solution here.

I found some old magnets deep down in my material boxes and used a calliper to make them a little smaller. At the same time Iwas looking for something which I could use for the counterpart. It had to be thin and metallic, but I had used my last metal sheet some time ago... so after grupping in all my boxes, drawers and everywhere else I found the cover of a can in my fridge... it was perfect for my plans ;)

I flectured a little part of the cover, cut it off and glued it at the inner side of the visor.

Now comes the crazy part... I took my dremel-tool and cut a small hole above the forehead of the (semi-painted) gladiator. It was quite tricky because it would have been easy to destroy the whole forehead... but after using this tool fore some years, it was not that big problem ;) after the hole was big enough I put a small part of the magnet into it and coverd everything with Vallejo Plastic Putty.

After polishing and covering the part with colour the work was done and I was pleased with the result. If you look at the area I have worked at, it´s quite hard to see anything, and even if you see anything, this area will be very dark, so nobody will really care ;)

So the last few hours I was able to continue with painting the bust by using oil-colours... it´s the hell of fun and it sooo damned easy and fast to get very good blendings. Big Kong really has to do the tutorial for you guys :)

There is still a lot to do, but I´m looking foreward for tomorrow, when I can continue painting ;) The last two pictures are not very good, because the oil-colour was still wet and I took them before putting the bust in the oven...

It´s not a big story or secret how to use magnets, but I hope, I could gave you some hints/ideas/help :)

Best wishes,
Peter

Lost in Impressions

Ouha!

Somehow the latest blogger problems killed the last new entries. This now will be a big write up with everything that was lost and something new. Hope you enjoy. Edit: I saw that blogger restored the postings.

First,
the British Grenadier Guard is up to ebay
- follow this link to get directed to the auction.

Second i can tell that i have dispatched the first row of the PRIZES won at the MAD MAX CAR COMPETITON. The Renegade still waits for some plastic crates that i have ordered to provide a safe shipping. Amazon tells me i still got to wait for them - so sorryio!

Third, there is a contest over on the Legio Pictorum, an italian Painters community. The contest is about the limited Bunny Girl by CMON and only this model can be painted, gentle and small conversions allowed but not much. If you are intrested in the contest you can find everything needed here, but you have to be a registred user of the Legio to take part. Thanks to my RwW who told me about the contest. Really a cool model to paint. I have my very own vision of her... she will be a queen in a postapocalyptic desert, a gang leader, a brilliant warrior, a leader to show respect to, the one who will unite the tribes to conquer new continents... she, who is the well feared Rabbit Queen (Update included)...

I have used Ätztech products for this base - they are really cool and there soon will be a big review about them, here in the jungle.

I already have a applied a basic colour decision everywhere and now will do the rough light and shadow work before it goes to details. I am still in the early progress so don't you mind strange places...

Fourth, I also did finish another bust.
I was comissioned to do Pegaso's Spanish Admiral bust for the second time. I really love to paint this model which is in 1:9. I hope you like him too, you can click him in the big voting arena if you feel like, just follow this link.

Fifth, i did finish a gift to 2 very nice persons who helped a lot during the last painting class in Dillingen-Saar. It is also the miniature i did start during the Class to explain painting and basing techniques. The model itself comes from Guild of Harmony, i just switched the bald head to a head with hat (hat is by Helldorado) and switched his staff as i did lost the original staff somehow. He is called "Fisherman's Friend". Hope you and those friendly guys will like him - if you want you can also do a click on him in the big voting arena - just follow this link!

Sixth, oh dear... i am planning to build up an army, just because of the fun to build up an army and the mad Raffa who does the same :)

Mkay... as far as i can remember i had a big motivation going on when i started my armies in the past. Never finished one because of the lack of motivation. Now i might have found a solution, a 12 model big army of Grey Knights - that's what i could realisticly do and try to manage, some once in a while. I can present you the first gaming model of my hopefully growing Grey Knight Army - hope you like him! More battle brothers to follow - if you want to click for this battle brother in the big voting arena - do it here! The bases have been done with common earth and superglue and some gypsum parts.

So far from my side - i wish everybody a great weekend and be sure the 700 Celebration Party is shortly rolling in! Soooonnn!!

Keep on happy painting!
Best Regards

Rabbit Queen and Joy of Basing

There is a contest at the italian Painters Forum, the Legio Pictorum, many thanks for Vittorio for letting me know. For this contest there is only one miniature to paint, everyone paints the same and it is the 40 mm limited Bunny Girl, sculpted by E. Giovagnoni, for sale on CMON. To take part in the contest you have to be a Legionari di Pictorum, registered at the Forum and you have to show your Work in Progress of your vision. Take a visit or join - it for sure will be a funny contest with this funny model.

I can present you my version and vision of this cool model - she will be a queen in a postapocalyptic desert, a gang leader, a brilliant warrior, a leader to show respect to, the one who will unite the tribes to conquer new continents... she, who is the well feared Rabbit Queen...

The base is build from different parts, also including Ätztech products (the 2 signs), where soon a review will arrive in the jungle. The big fist comes from a Yedharo Models and the rabbits are from Mantis Miniatures. I also did build 2 bases today, one comissioned and the other for Sale here on MV. Both look like this:

Happy Painting to you all!
