Smart Max did a really cool Painting Contest about their SMOG Range of 54 mm Steampunk models and all those entries made my day yesterday. Have a look into the gallery and see a ton of cool models!
You have to be at facebook to see the entries as the contest was completly run over on the book of faces.
I was lucky to win me gold in this contest - with Sir Victor Jazz and Butcher Pete. Many thanks to the Jury and all the other participants to make this contest stand out the line. It is said that i have won one year of Smart Max Miniatures, what that means i will soon find out :)

congrats!!!!
Hi Roman, congratulations. I wanted to mention however that I feel (and I think with me quite a few contestants, I did not participate) that it seems a bit unethical you'd send in this piece, a commission nonetheless, you finished a while ago. So, you get paid to do it, and now you get this prize with it, even if it was not originally ment for the competition. Not saying the piece is not outstanding, I'm just saying that there were several people who made a piece especially for this competition. That to me is the only way to enter in this competition. I know that might have not been the rules, but it just seems rather incorrect to me. Again I did not enter the comp, so this is not jealousy, just my thoughts.
@Ecthelion
Mmh, not a bad point indeed. The comissioner asked me if i would need the miniature before sending it to him and i told him that i would love to show it at the Duke of Bavaria in May. I was happy after finish it as a comission and Matt Cexwish told me about the Smart Max Comp, he even thought i did it for the contest. I had to tell him that i know nothing about the contest at all and he showed me. Not bringing in comission pieces into competitions would mean to me that i can't take part in comps as i mostly do comission pieces... i understand what you mean and feel a bit bad about it. The comissioner uses most of his collection of my miniatures to show them in Spain on different competitions, i even know people who get a comission to take part in a competition, not myself at the Smart Max Comp, but there is one :) ...
Thanks for your thoughts... soon all my comission time will be over - this years September and i wil get back to a normal job, a normal hobby and can do such entries without being a comission, but they might be sold afterwards... ay, ay, ay... that ain't easy!
Congrats Roman. I do agree with Ecthelions comments, but the fasct for me is, they liked your entry better than mine( I didnt even make the first cut for some reason?). Enjoy your win and the prizes. If you feel that bad, you could always send me some of them lol ;)
Congrats!!! But where can I get the other results?
Congratulations! Such an atmospheric piece.
As someone who typically paints a piece specifically for a competition, I have absolutely no problem with you entering something like this (ie. a commission piece) into a competition, should the rules allow. Why you have painted the model is not what is being judged here, it's the vision and ability, both of which you have in bucketloads. You should feel wonderful that not only did you work of art win a great prize, but that you have also sold it on to be appreciated by others.
Just my thoughts though
Cheers
Dave
Congrats, Roman!
I don't see any problems with someone entering commission pieces. What I WOULD find wrong is if people submitted pieces that were painted by other people as a commission, i.e. if the customer submitted the pieces. As long as the artist is involved I think it's fine. Of course I also understand the frustration that comes with the thought of having to compete with "proffessionals". Anyways, congrats again!
Congratulations, hadn't noticed the results were up till today or I'd have posted something earlier :) Well done and enjoy the prize, I'll just have to buy some more Smart Max stuff at Salute in April.
And thanks for posting a link to my work in progress on Cornelius a couple of weeks ago.
Keep on happy painting!
Regards Conrad
