Kong Fu Chi Fu

posted by roman, jarhead, kong

I have no clue why comments like this appear in the jungle, today via comment, here and here on some older postings:

"stop the hype.
you dont surpass the professional painters in the professional fields whom are established..
its sickening and sad.
stop it, stop the monkey shit."

"keep wanking you fanboys"

For sure these 2 comments have been done anonymous without courage. Now why i post this in here? I feel not offended in any form and should not make this big and in the end it doesn't bother me at all, but I've learned to show some balls in the past and say what i think, not anonymous :)

So if we would give some weight to the content of these comments there would be the questions what is behind it? There seems to be someone having a hard time and a heavy heart by saying and meaning this. I can't tell. Doing my miniature painting as every day life since 4 years, trying to earn a living from it made me somehow professional. I have no clue if I, Roman or Massive Voodoo established something professional to the Hobby World the last couple of years. That always depends on the viewers oppinion. Some years ago such comments made me somehow sad, but i've learned from it and love to talk about my emotions. It is not sadness, it is pity that i feel for the person's mind. I am sometimes sorry that there are fanboys and fangirls of Massive Voodoo or the stuff that we do, because some think all our actual output depends on these fan-family. I am glad that we can help and make some of you happy, but i am tired and sick of such imputations that also offend those who like what we do in here.

So how to handle such comments in the future? For sure I will not delete them, i don't like censorship - there is no reason. I would wish this person or the group of persons to speak up loudly with a name and tell me where their problem is, hidden via email or with balls in hand via comment and not anonym. As long as this stays anonym i won't give much weight to it - i will answer and keep my corteous charm, my answers sound like this:
@Anonymous
Hiho, sorry monkey shit will never stop... If you got a heavy heart please feel free to contact me via email.

@Anonymous
You should do some painting instead of spamming nonsense here :)
I know it might be way to much text about this topic and i should not even care, but i care as such comments also offend those who like the jungle. If comments appear and will increase by their content or maybe get insulting i got to delete them or even think about legal steps and to make a report (if they get insulting).

So, my mind is free again - thanks to those who did read this.
What is your oppinion about it?

Best Regards
Roman

PS: There soon will be a massive Update to the Article Section!! Many thanks for those who did some input on how to make the place better for your use. We are on it!

  2. Hey Roman,

this is the right way to handle such comments!
    Keep up your good work!

  3. I follow every news posted on Massive Voodo, and I think it's a good way to handled miniatures business. To my mind you (all) are really professionnals, not only because of those very nice and exciting painting but for all the articles on this blog.
It's a pity some people react like that.

The best way to deal with anonymous is to go on the blogspot admin and force "registerd users" only. Perhaps it's not nice for all users, but it's simple to deal with.

Keep up all the good work !

  4. If finding your work great and the tutorials at this site even greater, makes you a fanboy, then MV should have millions of fanboys.

Professional or not is always in the eye of the beholder. There is always someone that is better, and most of the time, those guys never consider themself professinal at all, just someone who really likes to paint.

Still a good reflection to read about, considering the MV guys both model & paint at a very high level and seems to likes it. There are tons of people who take commissions, paint badly, and starts hating to paint. That's why there is always a fresh batch of "commission takers" on any given miniature forum, that shows up for 6 months, then fades away.

  5. Who would even bother to post such drive-by crap on old blog posts? There are some pathetic trolls on the web but this is pointless even by most trolls standards (since what they seek is an entertainingly outraged response).

Seriously, in the future just delete this rubbish, it is the equivalent of those herbal viagra spam comments we all occasionally get (but Blogger kindly filters out).

  6. Well, if you compare these two bullshit-comments with all the positive feedback MV got in the time it exists, you can´t take it serious... especially if the guy did not have the balls to post with a name... it makes me laugh :D

Keep on going like in the last months, you´re on the right way ;)

  7. Every community has, what I like to call, "keyboard warriors" like these. My advice is to ignore them... they will go away after a while.

  8. I actually am not as friendly as Roman is, I have a problem with cowardly posting on our blog anonymously. We do this blog to share with other people who are into the whole matter. This offers three possibilities:

1)Come here and enjoy what we do.
2)Don't come here if you don't enjoy it.
3)Come here and leave your anonymous spam, later that day fuck off and die.

Sorry for the unusual strong language used but stuff like this makes me angry. Specially as all we do and offer here is FOR FREE ! Tutorials, articles on how to do stuff, step by steps, competitions ( with real prices to win, not just a 10 bucks voucher for some crappy online shop ), and more...
Remember, MASSIVE VOODOO is for free, we don't get paid to do this and do it just to share. If you don't want a piece of the cake, don't take it but don't complain about the taste without eating it.

  9. Man, comments like that will show up anywhere.

I admit that I'm not the biggest fan of the Kong Fu and random youtube links, but this is your blog and you can do whatever you want on it.

You'll never be able to please everyone with all that you do here.

Fact is, you are all amazing painters and modelers and your work is an inspiration to many people, me included ^^

I understand your anger at things like this, but remember that that is all they really want.

    Keep on rocking,
    Peter

  10. Sounds to me like someone who makes money of waht you offer for free. So it is not a troll in the ordinary way but a competitor who is jealous.

  11. To me such postings are the best way of showing what a great place the MV jungle is. Could be a interesting way of promoting, but it's hard faking envy as it shows up at these anonymous comments.

  12. "jealousy is absolute appreciation"

sad but true that people invest time to show off there baddest attitude.

  13. I agree with Allison M. You should just delete that rubbish. It's not cencorship if there is no reasoning for the negative opinion.

  14. Hm Roman, I think ignoring would be the right way to approach such "critics". Although you write that you don't care about it too much, writing such a long articel shows that it's obviously bothering you.

As for my part, knowing you personally, i know that you do not try to surpass ANYONE out there, you're just doing your own thing your own way.

The second comment... oh well, wanking is awesome, isn't it ;D?!

    Cheers, Benni

  16. I would just like to Tank you for all that you guys do. I started painting miniatures about a year ago and have been fallowing this blog for at least halve that time in a shot time from reading your blog and a few others in a short time my skills as a painter have increased faster then they would have without People like you and the others that openly share their knowledge.

Thank you for all that you contribute to this hobby.

    Sincerely,
Your Biggest Fan boy from the States :)

  17. I don't think that ignoring is the right way...but you should not entertain EVERY IGNORANT MF!!!! that decided to post rubbish...

You know what you do and why you do it, and this is way there is so many of us thankful for your work....and we have to live of something, fortunate the person that had happiness while working for a living

    Keep the good Karma....

  18. To all who are joining the Massive Voodoo Jungle. Jungle is hard and one day these small @Anonymous pseudo snipers will be victims of the jungle. Ha, Ha!

  19. Nothing, what has not benn said before but...

...your work, care and friendly attention, which can be seen in every post helped me in many painting situations, brought back the muse several times and inspires me for every single painting-session since I began to read massive voodoo.
I feel, many people are with me in my opinion.

Thank you and keep on with your great art!

  20. I think nearly all had been said, just one thing I want to point out... as someone above already said, this isn't any critic, this is just insulting. And so you can delete this shit. I love this blogg with the good tutorials, pictures and a cool music. I again started painting - after years - because of the jungle! I like the competitions etc etc so keep it up. I really love what you are doing - especially because it as personal and open as it is.

  22. I wouldnt think about such comments at all.
I think this is a very nice blog with much to learn and much inspiration.

There will always be people who have to comment their useless opinion about how much they hate your work or approaches. But hey their lives are grey and boring so they have time to say how much they hate you.

I can only feel sorry about these people. Maybe you are better then what you call professional. But guess what. I couldnt give a shit. :)

so let the monkey shit keep comming and keep the hatred shit outa here!

  23. Many thanks to all your oppinions - i just can't say more as this really helps to get over such bad emotions thrown at me...

I will do what i can do best and that means soon more jungle monkey shit rolling in :)

  24. Roman, don`t care about these comments. wasted energy. I learned a lot during the workshop and Your Tutorials. I think I`m not the only one who is thankfull. Just have a smile about these comments. Maybe it`s a personal step for You.
    Just smile ;)

  25. Don't worry Roman. You are doing a great job in our little word and you are giving help to more people than you would think.

Please, continue with the happy painting!!

  26. This is shit? Hell, I must be mad because I love it! The M.V. team does a great job. So instructive tutorials and pretty painting.
Few times I'll must read tutorials twice because the english (I'm spanish) but watching doesn't understand about languages, and I stare at this jungle several times a week. I love this blog, and a shitty jungle will never have +500 followers.

As you always say Roman, Keep on happy painting!

P.S: You could answer their point of view with the great Guns'nRoses song WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE!!!

  27. it was me (who's you) so to speak.
I have no idea what the hell has come over me last night when I wrote this.
I was really drunk to say the least, its ofcourse no reason at all to vent whatever was on my mind.
what was I thinking I really dont know.
my life's a mess that as much is clear.
my apologies to the jungle and its creatures, Roman and the others, and the community.
I was way over the line, I realise that.
I am ashamed and feel terrible about it.
    I am really sorry.
If you want Roman I can mail you, if it may help in anyway.

  28. @anonymous: That's a very candid gesture to confess it was you (whoever you are?!). As I am a part of the jungle too (a small and very silent one) I accept your apology. But I can only speak for myself. Maybe you should send Roman a Mail to get this thing cleared.

Hopefully you will enjoy your little stays at the jungle from now on. And always keep in mind, painting and this blog are not about comparing but about sharing.

  29. Ough...

    @Anomyous
I just can say my gratitude for your appologies and your additional email. I am in no way angry about this after your honest explanation in our private email. Don't you bother yourself with thoughts about apologize anymore. It's done. Many thanks for your honest words. I will answer your email now.

    @all
I am completly speechles about your responses. I really felt my heart somehow empty in the last couple of months, asking myself where my emotion to the jungle or the painting at all has gone. I am very proud and feel honoured to see the trees so crowded.

I did get an email of excuse to this posting and mostly everything is fine again. Again I know why i always try to talk honesty from the heart.

    Keep on happy painting :)

  30. Pay no attention to such nonsense. What you do here is both important and inspiring! (Now if only we can sweet talk you into doing a painting class in the States!) :)

  31. Excellence draws jealousy. That is a simple fact of life and the cause of such comments. I get it alot too. Just ignore them :)

  32. ..good to see things are clear after al...
i have more that great respect for your apology,
i take a man to say sorry in front of a tribunal furios jungel horde...chapeau!!

by the way ... thanks all of you for your kind words...

Rock on ..and keep the painting as happy as we all doo :-)

  33. I seriously dont think you guys know how much inspiration you give to our little community. This is one of the best, if not the best painting site on the web, so there no need to listen to the trolls . Thanks for all your help, and Happy Painting.

  34. I used* to paint minis for wargames and RPGs, but can’t seem to find the time anymore.

But I still check out MV at least once a week. Why?

Because I’m constantly amazed by the quality of the work posted here, and the extreme helpfulness of the plentiful tutorials.

And because it lets me dream about picking up painting again some time.

    * As in the 80s and early 90s.
