The Contest starts today with the announcement and ends April 22th 2015.
Everybody except the Judges of the contest are allowed to enter the contest.
You are allowed to enter in all categories. No limitations.

You have to be a follower of the Massive Voodoo blog via google account or a follower on our  facebookpage to enter the contest. If you are not yet, now is the time!
Your finished entries have to be sent via Email to us.
This is an online contest - photos of your entries will be judged, so take care to make proper ones. We can not do a good judging job if you sent us crappy mobile photos.

Please sent your entries of the contest via mail to:
mv---at---massivevoodoo---dot---com

and title your mail with "Bananalicious 2, *category name*, *your name*".
All mails without that title won't be accepted for the contest.

By entering you allow Massive Voodoo to use your photos to display the results of this contest in the Internet.

When you enter we need one seperate photo showing the following banner with each of your entries. Save it to your computer, print it, write your name and date on it, take the photo. If you are not able to print it, just take a piece of paper and write the same information to it.

2.2. Explanation of

- Standard/Master/Free Categories
There are different categories in this contest for you to enter. Some are divided in Standard and Master. Others are Free.

Standard Category:
Enter here if you are new to contests, if you consider your painting skill as a beginner or average painter. If you decide to enter for example Standard Historical Painting and you also like to enter in Fantasy you also have to decide for Standard, not one Standard entry and one Master entry.

Master Category:
Enter here if you already have some experience in painting contests or if you already have won something in other contests. In Master your painting skills should be from average to high quality as you are competing with the best. If you decide to enter for example Master Historical Painting and you also like to enter in Fantasy you also have to decide for Master, not one Standard entry and one Master entry.

Free Categories:
These categories are not divided in Standard or Master. These categories are not divided in skill levels.

- Display Categories
In display categories you have to enter a display. A display is a collection of several of your miniature projects. Minimum are three pieces. Maximum are five pieces. There has to be at least one new piece - never seen before in the Internet - in your display. The rest can be filled up with the projects you have done in the past and are most proud of.

If you enter a display category we want to see the following photos from your entry:
- A group photo of your complete display with the banner of your name and date
- A group photo of your complete display
- One photo of each of the single projects
- Make sure that the photos you sent are not bigger than 1 MB in size!

Here are two examples to explain what a display is:

- Single Project Categories
In single project categories you have to enter just one project. Your entry has to be new - never seen in the Internet before.

If you enter a single category we want to see the following photos from your entry:
- Three photos of your entry from different angles

The Jury consists of Roman and Raffa of the Massive Voodoo Team.

We are judging the following points when looking at your entries:
- First Impression
- Athmosphere and overall quality of the single piece/display
- Painting technique
- Basing

During the judging work we allow ourselves to move entries in other categories. We don't plan to do this often, but if some entry seems in the wrong category for us and is having unfair influance on other entries in the category we'll do. We propose you just have some trust in us in this case. We both are a good team when it comes to judging and won't harm anyone. We just want the Contest to be a fair one.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Q: I have a question on the Special Free Category: Base. Are you wanting to see the base painted up or in its natural pre-primed condition for the final photo?
A: Painted.

Q: Are we allowed to show WIPs earlier, for example in a forum or a blog?
A: Yes.

Q: How do I manage to do a photo collage with 1 MB only?
A: Well, we do not ask for photo collages. Please sent us several single photos with maximum 1 MB each.

Q: Can I enter converted models into the Sculpting Category? If not, where to enter them?
A: Yes, if your conversion is done with sculpting work and if it is more than 50% of the original model. If your conversion work is less than 50% you have to enter these models together with others, painted in the Fantasy or Historical display categories.

Q: In Special Free Category: Base:Would it be okay to put some parts (or whole) of the mini or vehicle as an element on the base? For example, A destroyed or abandoned vehicle on the urban theme base, a corpse on the cemetery theme base, or small animals on the jungle theme base.

Can't wait for this contest to begin.

    Enjoy!

  3. Just to check but am I right in thinking you need to enter a minimum of three miniatures unless you enter diorama or base?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Sculpting free categories would only be for newly orinal sculpt or would modification/customizations be accepted? If YES, how much customization you allow for entering here? if NO where a customization would eventually enter?
    Good luck mates

  5. @Forté
Right. For display categories it is minimum three projects.
Army category needs to see photos of your whole army, one unit and your HQ.
Only categories with single entries are: Diorama, Sculpting and Base.

    @Pitlap
No Banana this year. Special Category is to build up a base without a miniature.

    @Mario
You can enter customized models if they are at least 50% converted into sculpting and if your conversion work is sculpted.

If they are less converted then you have to enter Fantasy or Historical categories and see your conversions painted too. Added this to the FAQ.

  7. When you say the category is display, does that mean we cannot enter miniatures on a gaming base?

    ReplyDelete
  8. @Jean-Francois
When we say the category is a display category you have to enter a display: A display is a collection of several of your miniature project. There is no rule forbidding gaming bases at all. You can do bases on a plinth, bases on round plastic bases, on four-square gaming bases, miniatures without a base, bases on a piece of stone, etc. ...

The display in this casee means you are showing several of your works in a display. Check the photo, it explains what a display is.

  9. In Special Free Category: Base,
Would it be okay to put some parts (or whole) of the mini or vehicle as an element on the base?
For example, A destroyed or abandoned vehicle on the urban theme base, a corpse on the cemetery theme base, or small animals on the jungle theme base.

  10. Ok, when deciding master or standard can I ask a quick opinion? I've never done contests, but I don't know that I'd fit in to the standard. Nor do I feel I can say confidently that I'm a master...

If I can ask an opinion, can I email a P&P gallery or something to you? Sorry. I just want to make sure I enter in the right spot!

    ReplyDelete
  11. If a piece is the combined work of two sculptors can it be entered with appropriate credit to both? I have a piece that I have been working on for some time (with many hours yet to go) but had a friend also working on it with me in the early stages while I was figuring out forms and design. This could give me the impetus to finally finish this massive undertaking...

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Thor
Yes, sure. Only rule is there shouldn't be a miniature as the main aspect on your base. This category wants to see a beautiful base from you, more or less a still life where no action of miniatures is required.

    @Nathan Pullen
If you never have done a contest we would recommend starting with master. You can also check last issues winners - Fantasy Standard: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.de/2013/03/bananalicious-fantasy-standard-winners.html - Fantasy Master: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.de/2013/03/bananalicious-fantasy-master-winners.html

    @TKKultist
    Yes, it can be entered.

    ReplyDelete
  13. All your questions and the answers are now in the FAQ :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Nathan
Sorryio, of course this is a mistake. We recommend Standard, not Master.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi,

that sounds like a very cool contest and I will give it a try.

I was wondering if the miniatures in a display need to be photographed in front of a neutral background or if they could also be arranged in a scenic shot? That is with a photo background (sky, forest etc.) and terrain around?

If so, would the rather go in the diorama category, even though it is a temporary arrangement?

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Daggerandbrush
First of all, it is important that the judges see good photos of your entry with a neutral background. It is important for us to see what we have to judge without distraction. You can then add an additional photo to your mail of entries, showing your display in front of a photo background. This will not influance the judging work, as we are judging the following points:

    - First Impression
    - Athmosphere and overall quality of the single piece/display
    - Painting technique
    - Basing

No photo background athomsphere included here ;)
    Hope this helps!

  17. I see that part of the rules state that it has to be new. I have already made the base for the piece I'd like to enter and it has been shown in the latest FPM, but the actual miniature as not even been started yet. Would this still be allowed? Or does every part have to be completely new?

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Atacam
Depends on which category you enter. If you enter in a display category only one piece of your several miniature projects in your display have to be new. If you enter in a single project category the project has to be new. New means that all of the projects elements are new.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Do WIP photos count against newness? Let's say I have shown some internet friends photos of my half completed diorama in an online forum. Can I enter the completed project in the contest?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't understand . Why do you distinguish beginners and masters painters? There is no distinction for the medals , right?

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ditto on Demihuman's question. I share WIP steps of my models very often on my blog and would like to know if I should consider a new model to enter into the contest because of this... I'm hoping that this is not the case though, I'm fond of my WIP projects and would love to enter them!

    Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Blackfish
We distinquish them because we think it is a good thing to have this our the contest. We saw from the first issue of this contest that people liked it and so we decided to go on with it. There is a little distinction in the medals. Master medals are delivered with red background. Beginners with blue background.

    @Demihuman & Roemerworkshop
You are allowed to show your WIPs ...added this to the FAQ.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Finally, a reason to start those procrastinated projects! :)

Didn't paint high quality for faaaaar to long, but that doesn't matter. For da bananaz! :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. Another question from me MV team! Will we receive commentary for the projects we present (regardless of the project winning an award or not) or will we be notified of results when the judging is complete? I'd love to receive some C&C!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Is there any restriction on scale? I mean, is it fine to enter with 1:6 scale (and larger) miniatures as well? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Graf
Hope you are already painting like mad!

    @Roemerworkshop
Well, we can not promise this. Depends on the number of entries, last year we recieved 172 entries overall, many of them displays and overall we had 400 miniatures in the contest. We are not expecting much less this time and so it is truely a hard task to sit down and give everybody taking part proper feedback and C&C. I mean this would take several weeks for us. So, speaking frankly, do not expect that.

    @Anonymous
No, as long as it says: Scale is free or Scales can be mixed you can enter whatever Scale you like!

    ReplyDelete
  27. If i want to show You Mordheim warband should i put it into army category or treat it as an unit in display?
    Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @BRaat
A Mordheim Warband or Blood Bowl Team would rather be a unit in display.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hello Roman,

I've got one question about the sculpting category, is this possible to prime the mini (at least for one photo)? Some contestants did it last year and it could help me (there are 5 differents colours of putty on my bust).

In addition, I'd like to know if it possible to enter the same sculpted mini in the sculpting category (unpainted) and the painted version as part of a display.

    Thanks for the answers.

So happy of this contest,it brings so much energy for me, I even began to built a scene for a duel! My first one!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Darcy
    Good to hear!

    @Pitlap
Yes, for one photo it is ok.
    Additional, yes it is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have a question about the photos, what size do you want them in, pixel size that is?

    ReplyDelete
  32. There is no rule for that. Just do as you see fit and good. We should see your models well and do not want to recieve big amounts of data, for example an email with 20 MB ... Keep it simple, but no rules. You decide :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. In the category of sculpting can be enter one piece. It is possible to enter one piece vignette (2-3 figures), or be just one figure? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can a group of 3 painters join the display category entering 1 mini each if the entry is submitted under a group/studio name?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Jun Tan
No, this is not allowed as it is unfair to compare a group entry to a single persons entries.
You can enter all three as single persons and write that you are a part of a studio.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi guys,

I have just sent in my entry :).
Now I was wondering if it is OK to publish my *NEW* piece online now that I entered. Or do I have to wait until the Banalicious contest is over?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I am really looking forward to see all the awesome entries! Good luck with the contest everyone :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey Maartje, well, you are ok to show them as soon as you got the confirmation mail. Sorry for the late reply.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good Morning,
the Army category is labeled as "display" does that mean, you need to see different photos of ONE army, oder different Photos of severall army projects?

    Cheers,
    Paul

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Paul, it is a display category because you have to show us the following photos of your army: Do one photo of your complete army, one photo of your favourite unit and one photo of your general.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi !
I'd to try the Standard Fantasy categorie (If I manage to finish in time).
But it says "In this category you must enter a display", so a single model is not allowed ?

What categorie should I go for a single model ?

    Thanks in advance !

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi fellas,

One question, can i submit a base entry and use it later for a figure entry?

    Thx

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Ticos:
"But it says "In this category you must enter a display", so a single model is not allowed ? " ... Right you have to enter a display of at least 3 models.

"What categorie should I go for a single model ?"
The ones marked with single with a look on that the model fits the category.

    @Blue Sack Ape
    Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi fellas I just sent 4 submissions, but haven't got any confirmation mail so far...should I get worried?

    Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  44. No need to get worried. I will answer them tomorrow morning ... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Okay got an entry in! Thanks for all the bananas!
