Thanks to my friend Peter R. for giving me the opportunity to paint this big "miniature".
I am not 100% sure if this creek Celt interpretation of mine is totally correct, nonetheless I enjoyed painting him up. It took me a little while as I am not really used to the scale of 90 mm, it's pretty huge, but therefore the sculpt by Pegaso Models is just splendid.
Sometimes I really enjoy the change of topic that a historicl sculpt brings to the way of painting it. I mean I love to paint fantasy-styled characters and will always enjoy it but if you do painting for a living and paint a lot changes can be healthy to the work you do with your brush.

Correct or not, who cares... :-) I think the most important is the painting. And the painting is perfect. There were no cameras then so I believe there may be a celtic warrior who looks like this one. Cheers, Martin

ReplyDeleteHis armor looks like Greek linothorax, or linen armor. People often paint it white although I like your color choice better. No real examples of the armor survived, so we don't know how it was made so the outer layer might have been leather. They did find a version made out of iron and gold in tomb. Clearly a very unique piece, but who's to say a celt wouldn't make their version out of leather?

Indeed, it is different than painting a "Miniature", the canvas gets bigger and I often took a bigger brush for some areas, makes life more simple then :)

Thanks for your explanations. Sounds like you are into the topic a little more than I am. I am happy that not so much is known by that big mass of people called the celts. I mean they were about everywhere in europe and I believe they wore different stuff from different material ... thanks, your words encouraged me that I did nothing too seriously wrong!
