Latest Stuff

Hey guys,

a month has passed since "Duke of Bavaria" and interest in Diablo 3 is finally shrinking. It´s time to let the brushes dance again :) well of course I was not totally lost in the realm of pixels and mouse-clicking-orgys and so started some nice projects I want to share with you. But before showing them to you I remember I promised you some final pictures of the diorama.

Today I got my new lamp and took some (well not perfect) pictures:

I hope you like the finished version :) I was very happy to get Bronce in Fantasy Master Painting and so there is a new aim ahead for next year´s contest :)

And here are the pictures of the new projects. I know it´s not always the best way to start three different things at a time, but two of them are to big to finish them in a direct way. So if I´m not in a mood to paint one I can choses out of two others ;) so please keep in mind, all pictures are (strongly) wip!

1) Ghoul Bust (JMD?), I started right the day we came back from Ingolstadt:

2) Norman Knight Bust by Young Miniatures:

3) Decurio Equitus by Pegaso (75mm) (the hell of a thing and a 1-year-project)

Just these few words for the moment as I have to prepare for tomorrow´s work... hope there is soon more to tell :)

Regards,
Peter

  1. I really like your miniatures. What you consider very wip is better than what some would consider finished.

Do you block in your colours, highlights and shades and then refine them from there? I'm very interested in your technique.

  2. Ain't fair for those barbarians! The Minotaur can cleave them just with a single swoop of his axe!

Nice armour on that minotaur, really interesting texture.

The young bust: why did you chooose those colors? Any reason? Any storic references?

  4. This diorama is great and one of the most athmospheric dios I´ve seen. Love the sign on the base. I think it deserves more than bronce. It was great to see the dio in real. :)

@ Coyotebd: thank you a lot :) well, I think in the main points you are right with your assumptions. But to make it clear I will try to explain my "technique":

After priming I paint every part of the miniature with its basic colors to get a general map before I start to work out every single area (the Decurio is a good example for this). Now here is the part where it gets confusing because I have no fix concept of how I continue. Usually I start with the lights by simply adding more and more “light-color” to my basic color (using layers) till I´m quite satisfied with the result. But during the progress I also start to work out the shades. It´s more a question of feeling and how for long I have fun doing a single step. For example if I´m bored by painting the lights I stop and start with the shades or change to a complete different part of the miniature. So in this way the miniature is slowly developing as a whole and I can concentrate on special sections to get the result I´m looking for. Hope you understand what I mean. To sum up: I just start painting and never know what shall happen till it happens ;)

@ Kraan: there was no special historical thought behind my choice of color. I just modified the promo-paintjob a little bit because it too bright in the color-choice.

@ Weisern & Serafin: thank you a lot my friends :)

  6. Hi
I also agree - the diorama looks great.
But I've got a different question - sorry for not knowing - from which firm are those miniatures? Could You give me a tip, cause my friend has really gone nuts about Your Minotaur :o)
    Thanks for any help

    Hey Adam!

don´t mind, it´s no problem :) the minotaur is made by Maelstrom Games (Banelords):

    http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=mae_blg_bnl_cha_018_000

But I have converted the miniature´s weapon a little bit: I changed the axe´s leg, because it was to thin for the big blade and also removed one of the axe-blades.

The barbarians are made by Tre from Red Box Games :) one of my favourite miniature-companies:

Unfortunatly some of the miniatures are not available any more (were quite old), but there ist great new stuff :)

Hope I could help you a bit. And always take care about a very important philosophical thought: every great achievement started with a simple question ;)
