On my way!

Posted by Raffa, Picster, Capuchin,...

Hey!

As i will soon be picked up by Chris (Bestienmeister) to leave for a painters meeting AND Roman & Peter already left for their workshop AND Ben & Matt are having their workshop this weekend too.... it will be a quite calm weekend :)

I'm really totally looking forward to painting the whole weekend and having some good talk with some friends :)

Oh and to not make this posting all senseless... i have a update of the ronin :)
He will be 54mm scale, the hat is optional as the not shown sake bottle will be. I know there are some "not so historical correct" spots on him but i just like the style more like this ;)

So i hope some of the other monkeys keep you amused on the weekend!
Cheers,
Raffa

  2. the ronin is cool, but the sword is wrong. samurai swords allways are blade up, so that the tip doesn't aim to heaven, but the bottom... you should fix that! greetz Tuffskull

  3. No, not correct. The katana usualy was carried sharp side UP. This was because the katana was mostly drawn while being mounted (horse-back). So if a warrior would draw his katana blade sharp side DOWN he would cut his horse´s head. But with the sharp side UP he will draw the blade straight UP alongside his body center and not in a swing.

By doing it the "UP-way" firstly he won´t harm his horse and secondly while being on foot he automaticaly has protection allong his body center from certain incoming blows right while drawing the sword.

Hence not all fights are horse-back fights so naturaly several different ways of sword fighting exist. The style of drawing once sword depends on the teachings of his master and the dojo (school). So there is no normal or always. It´s just more comon to carry it sharp end UP cause its more widespread than sharp side down due to the ammount of traditional teachings which also depend on region and culture.

A Ronin is revered to as rogue warrior, without master or dojo. There is no rule or law they obey. They have not master/teacher (anymore) so thei are kind of, let´s say, creative ;-)

And what kind of nick is "Aefe4aec-7672-11e0-9cf7-000f20980440" anyways?!

Sry for the long comment. I had to state that cause I trained Aikido for several years.

@Tuffskull: I´d too like it UP. But hey, I see that as an invitation to do conversions ;-)
