Painting Session Report_______________________________________________
A little report from yesterdays painting session, out of the jungle headquarters, Models randomly mixed from Raffa and myself, i'll write it up while Raffa is a very welcomed guest to this posting :)
Artefactory's male Lion bust painted in acrylic by myself first.
A different bust to paint as it is not human or alien. Good Experience just painting an animal and i had my fun. For his hair i used real human hair. I tried to make him look old, but somehow the sculpt seems to be the one of a young lion regarding the mane. Also i have tried to make him less petlike and catch him in a moment where he is eating out of the body of a dead zebra - they really look scary during their meal. While painting i really loved his right facial area, where he looks like a true lion king in my oppinion. On his left side he looks like a pet somehow, but overall it was a real joy to paint as my zodiac is also Lion. You can also find this bust over on the big voting arena, if you want to click there click here!

or "Californication". This might help to understand:
"Psychic spies from China
Try to steal your mind elation
Little girls from Sweden
Dream of silver screen quotations
And if you want these kind of dreams
It's Californication
It?s the edge of the world
And all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the east
At least it settles in a final location
It?s understood that Hollywood
Sells Californication
Pay your surgeon very well
To break the signs of aging
Celebrity skin is this your chin
Or is it war your waging
First born unicorn
Hard core, soft porn
Dream of Californication
Dream of Cailfornication"
...
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication Lyrics
I am not sure if anybody gets what i wanted to say with this little scene, even i have to try hard to figure it out. Would be really intrested on what you think about it. Whatever, it was a hell of a fun working with these tiny people from Preiser's Railroad Equipment. They are really, really small. I did self sculpt this little boat to have them seated while looking at the last of the big Pelicans. The big Pelicans are close to extinction. This old male is the last of the big Pelicans you can visit him by ordering your tickets and journey on boat on the left fillet by this bald buy in front of the ticket booking store... enjoy your trip and make sure you don't scare the big one...

Raffa - Work in Progress__________________________________________________
Fasten your seatbelts now comes a massive round up of Work in Progress stuff from both of us. Guests first.Helldorado is calling: "Raaafffffaaaarrrggglllllgnaaaa!!"
But the demon prince screams far louder into your inner soul. Some better shots of Raffa's big demon boy with this tzeentchy blue eyesight killing wonderous magical colour explosions. Just in case: Raffa did convert this beast from the Games Workshop demonprince model and converted it - Mr. Miagi Style :)
Finally somehow Raffa finally arrived the point of no return as i did some weeks ago - painting with pure joy again, kisses by the muse, no pause, no problem to big (quote of yesterday: "First glue - than think!", 5 seconds later "Oh no! What have i done! I could need some more light i can't see a thing!) - really happy about this fact my friend as the future days on our small workbenches with these small miniatures will get very big rememberd in our hearts again :) - here is some sculpting work of yesterday:
Roman - Work in Progress__________________________________________________
As we did some intense photographing yesterday i sure did not miss the Pirate project - having clearer photos of a Work in Progress piece are important from time to time, to check these sharp photos for things to improve or see the project rise with thoughts even more - still Work in Progress and a hell of a fun project. I am still not finished with the water thing and i think finishing the project might take 2 additional weeks, easily and around 2 more weeks to write the whole article about water and what i found out on my path while working with water...
Another project enters the realm. Another Tau model i had standing around on a corck for a long time. You all know about the situation in Japan. I did see a lot of photos and news about it lately as everyone else did and got to say that i am real sorry that nature has caused such a tragedy and my heart is with the people there. Somehow all the photos and impressions i have seen appear somehow in that Tau - i do kind of feel bad about it as i do not what to make fun of this. I somehow translate the input of the news into a language i can speak best in. This will be a dedicated project and will be sold on ebay later on. Half of the amount the auction will bring I will donate to help Japan. If anyone knows a good donation page please let me know via comment. There is not much i can do but i can paint without pause and if this little amount only brings one Tedday bear to Japan to have a child clamp at it as they have not much left to hold on - i know this Tau painted up for a good cause. More about this soon, still Work in Progress...
Closing words_______________________________________________________________
Mati today travelled to his Sculpting workshop in Aachen. Tomorrow Raffa and me both will head to another painting class and are already preparing everything. So finally it might get a little more calmed in the monkey lair.
We hope you like the stuff showed - feel invited to comment.
Keep on happy painting!
Best Regards
Roman

ReplyDeleteMany thanks :)
Damn i missed to hit the Pelican with gore and blood, haha...
Great stuff yet again! Raffa's demonprince just rocks! Unfortunately I somehow can't find the wip entries of this guy on the blog...even with great search machine google :P
ReplyDeleteYou truly are two mad apes ;)
Great Lion!! He looks really real! How did you paint the fur-texture on him? Maybe a lot of people would be interested in some words from you to this topic! Thank you very much if you could spare some time for some words there!!! Please ;) That would be great!!!
ReplyDelete@Gunslinger
ReplyDeleteMuchas Gracias! As far as i know Raffa did not show some WIPs so far :)
@Anonymous
Many thanks for the compliments about the lion - the texture was done with fine strokes of the fur colour, but much brighter so that you can see it on the fur, i have done this several times going brighter in these little strokes by using the theory of zenithal lightning and darker by using the same. It took me several hours to get this fur light and shadow situation as the model has no sculpted fur texture on its face. After this was done, i did apply several thin glazes of my basic colour to get it all together again... i hope this helps somehow. For sure there will be an article about painting different textures in the jungle, but time is needed to prepare something like that... stay tuned!
I love all of this!
ReplyDeleteHow did raffa do the head? Sculpting or swap?
And where did he get that lovely shield and halberd? (I could use those for some skaven project i'm doing...)
Grts,
Nico

Hey, I know this is few years later but any chance that can tell me how that tzeentch demon price was painted? (and any chance that can do it without an airbrush?)
ReplyDeleteHey Joe, the project was created by Raffaele Picca. I am not sure if he did read your comment here. I can not help you with your question. If Raffa does not respond you can contact him via: picster(at)massivevoodoo.com ...
ReplyDeleteAlrighty then, thanks for the comment, I appreciate it, specially didn't expect answer the same day :P
