Hey Jungle,

this was a really cool fun project.
A small little owl bear griffon monster inspired me to create this scene and use different scales again. The "big" monster is from Raging Heroes.

It is so much fun playing with different scales and I was converting this 1:100 figure to a knight.

Hope you like it!

This diorama is for sale in my PDF cataloge,
if you are interested to make it part of your collection.

There is also a full step by step included in my PDF Tutorial "The Game of Scale". Enjoy and thank you for your support!

Keep on happy painting!

Review: Private Coaching with Claas

by Roman aka jar

Hey Jungle!

This time I got another review for you.
A review of a private coaching I had some weeks ago with Claas aka
https://www.instagram.com/c.m_paints/

Two days with talented and focused student I was looking forward to meet.

Claas had so many questions, so many plans to put in these two days, so much energy that it was lovely to prepare the coaching for him.

This is what Claas said about his coaching:

"When I contacted Roman I had a lot of questions in my head and after we wrote some E-Mails I asked myself if I was hoping for too many answers in a short time of two days of private coaching. Now, after the coaching, I can tell you that the most difficult part about it and the new knowledge is to sum it up in a few lines…

Mainly I felt stuck with painting atmosphere. Whatever I did the miniature didn’t looked alike how I wanted it to be. With that problem I entered Roman’s studio and I was impressed by his setting in which you can feel a spirit of creativity. Why I point it out you’ll get at the end of the review.

As I said it is impossible to write down everything that I learned in a short time. But looking back the most important thing about Roman’s way of teaching was: with all the theoretical content, the exercises and demonstrated explanations on his miniature, he pushed me to a point where I could solve the irritation and ongoing questions I had before and answer some of them by myself. There is not better way of learning!

I began to observe objects differently and to analyze light and colors in a way that it makes sense for the whole conception of the miniature scenery. He changed my whole painting process in a way that it feels like it makes sense what I was doing with a concrete vision of the miniature and it’s setting. For the whole time I felt enthusiasm and with every brushstroke I saw that I made another little step to the vision I had in mind. So I think that this is what it means when it comes to happy painting. Needless to say that Roman is impressive as a person and as a teacher and heading back at home felt like I had spend a really good time with a friend.

So mybe there is one question left that I should answer exactly.
Why did I point out the atmosphere of Roman’s studio at the beginning of my review? When I was back at home I discovered little things and details that bothered me at my working space without noticing it before concretely. So I changed it and for example I broke up with colors sorted by recipes. And sitting there for the first time made me smile. So in conclusion I learned so much more about painting what I couldn’t expect to when I wrote my first E-Mail to Roman. Furthermore I found answers to questions that I had never asked before. What more could I expect? Roman, thank you so much for this experience it was phenomenal in so many levels! Happy painting everybody!"

- Claas

Thank you again, Claas for your will to learn from me!
I really enjoyed the two days with you. Thank you for the wonderful chats and your steep learning curve! It has been a pleasure to see you understand more about painting and visualization of it!

Keep on happy painting!
Best Wishes

Actual information about workshops & private coachings!

FM: Winter of Fimbul

by Roman aka jar

Good Morning Jungle,

a great start in the new week to everyone!
I am very much looking forward to this week as I am finally able to get back to private coaching after some postponed dates due the pandemic. Will be quite the busy week so please be patient with my email communication.

Today I wanted to show you a project I called

"Winter of Fimbul".

A beautiful 54 mm scaled figure by Black Crow Miniatures.
Fimbulwinter is the immediate prelude to Ragnarök (Wikipedia).
My vision for her included something small scaled from the beginning.

I really enjoyed this project and I love to play with different scales. It just allows the stretch imagination further. Hope you like her!

In private collection.

Keep on happy painting!
Best Wishes,R

News: Zombie Community Project & Tutorials on etsy & doubts

by Roman aka jar

Hey everyone!

Some believed this project dead: The Massive Voodoo Zombie Community Project.
Well, it was sort of undead, yes. Still walking, but somehow dead.
Some, including me had doubts if it ever will see its end.
It did and a diorama with 407 miniatures was finished recently.

A beast of a diorama, including 407 miniatures in scale 28mm and lots of superglue. Thanks to everyone involved as a large amount of Zombies were painted by the great help of this amazing community. I only painted about 90 Miniatures myself, including the survivors. Thank you all! Without your help this would have not been possible! Special sculpting work by Kevin James White included. Thanks to Andrew for putting the title in my head: "The Last Bite". It did not leave me. Time to take a deep breath now and show you more of it soon!

Here is just a little preview of "the Last Bite".

More will follow, including a 360° video in 4k with details. Stay tuned!
It is much work and I still feel a bit exhausted after finishing this.

Another topic that is dear to my heart.

My etsy shop.

First of all thanks to those who stop by and support me!
Thank you for the great feedback so far!

I know and heard that some do not like it. They feel offended in a way I personally can not understand.
I even heard someone guessing "this diorama was created for a shop wall". This made me sad. Yes, I created a PDF about the creation of this diorama for my etsy shop. Yes, it is not a free tutorial on Massive Voodoo. Yes, I say this loudly.

I hope you do not blaim me that I took the decision 18 years back to be a self employed artist and teacher. I hope you do not blaim me for putting a 101 paged PDF that explains the creation of this Diorama in my etsy shop for under 10,00 €. So far I wrote over 400 free articles to share the miniature love and my experiences, in forums, on Massive Voodoo. I hope you do not blaim me in starting an etsy shop with some high quality articles in times of the pandemic where teaching in group seminars is not as easy as it was before. The world changes, my job does too. If you blaim me, I am sorry.

Let me know your thoughts.

You can be sure that this diorama was not created for an etsy shop front.
Starting it with the community aspect almost six years ago had different reasons. And these reasons are dear in my heart, this is why everyone involved in this project can get it for free (there is a describtion in the PDF that explains details). If you want and if you participated in it you can get your money back. No kidding, but I am proving it as sometimes the internet can be full of trolls.

Well, my etsy shop helps me to survive and it is fun.

I lost fun in writing articles on Massive Voodoo,

share my experience in miniature painting and teaching to see the same content used afterwards in You Tube videos and Tutorials you got to pay for. I just lost joy in thinking about writing my own knowledge down for free. I do not say my wisdom is unique. My experience and how I explain it, is. From it, how you understand things is unique too.

With my etsy shop I found that joy back.
I am taking photos all the time. Work in Progress, in nature and all the time as my brain wants to teach and explain again. I am wrapping up old articles I wrote ten years ago with not so good english, correct them and add my nowadays knowledge to it. For putting them on etsy, not on MV, yes. Some will blaim me for it, others will be thankful.

Writing these articles takes time.

I do not want to teach in video format as the speed of consuming is too fast in my eyes. You will learn of course, but not in the way that fits to my teaching style. I want the painters who learn from me take their time. Invest their time in learning. Not brainless consuming of too many videos on how to paint a certain technique. Of course I say this provocative. I do not mean it in this way. I say this to make you understand my point of view.

I will add more to my etsy shop.
And once in a while I will add tutorials to MV again.

I am proud of the articles so far published on etsy:

Much more to come in the future and yes,
you can call this advertisment if you like.
Or you can call it RomanLappat+

as plus is the new cool!

... you can like it, or not.
You can support it, or you can not.
I am thankful to everyone who supports it and
will give my best to help you grow as a happy painter.

Thank you!

News: MV Workshop Information

by Roman aka jar

 Good Morning Jungle,

many people ask me these days when they can find updates on weekend workshops and when they can enroll. I got news for you!

WEEKEND GROUP WORKSHOPS
There will be workshops in 2022, but right now none are planned. No dates yet.
This is due the wild and chaotic pandemic situation at the moment. I do not want to announce something and suddenly have to cancel it again due new restrictions. I wait until I can see the developement of the pandemic clearer.

You can expect to see new announcements in early April as I plan to start to teach workshops again around the end of May. Stay tuned and thank you for your patience!

PRIVATE COACHINGS
Fully booked until May with Private Coachings right now. Two had to be canceled in the last two weeks due pandemic restrictions or effects. One was postponed due travel restrictions for my student, the other one postponed due my very own quarantaine of ten days. As soon as there is a clearer view on weekend seminars I will plan further dates for private coachings too as I got quite the list of students who want to recieve their appointment.

I want to thank you all for your patience on this!

Keep on happy painting!
Best Wishes,
Roman
