Second I would say that it depends on the figure and the athmosphere you want to transport. A figure on a really crowded display base with vertical elements (for example a wall, etc.) will always transport a feeling of "being more in the scene"... more included, the athmosphere is getting more dense, but also you can see less of the figure. Hope the question is answered.
